How can record demos? - Posted By: Grenzer On: 12/24/2007
To record a demo open the console and type in:
/record
To stop a recording session open the console again and type in:
/stoprecord
You will find the demos folder in the MAIN folder of the call of duty folder (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\main\demos)
The filename of the demo will start with demo0000.dm_1 ! The next demo will be named demo0001.dm_1 etc etc etc. But you can also give a demo a custom name. To do so open the console and type in
/record demoname
whereas you replace demoname with the name you would like to give the demo.
Demo Playback involves a bit work.
Go to your Call Of Duty folder and then to Mods/ModWarfare. If there is no folder called demos yet create it now. Copy all files from main/demos over to Mods/ModWarfar/demos. Once this is done start CoD4. In the Game Menu select Mods (it is the third last option) and it will open the Mods List. Double Click on Modern Warfare what then will reload CoD4. Once it is reloaded open the console and type in
/demo demoname
i.e. /demo demo0000 or /demo demo0001
How to convert a demo into an avi file (this is untested yet)
Start a demo playback, open the console and type in
/cl_avidemo 30
Your machine will get quite jerky now but dont worry... this is caused by the converter which is now taking 30 screenshots per second. In your screenshots folder there are not tons of new screenshots. These can be used to form the avi file with a specialized program (i.e. from Reasoft and i think it is called Reaconverter. Will need to look though). Anyway... converting to an avi file is abusing HDD space and might be time consuming.

I've seen these coloured player names. Can I do that, too? And if so how? - Posted By: Grenzer On: 12/24/2007
You can set colours for Server and Player Names. It both work the same way so let's use our server name "Team RiNo Ranked Server" as example. "Team RiNo" is coloured red, whereas "Ranked Server" is coloured yellow.
First of all the colour codes:
^1 = Red
^2 = Green
^3 = Yellow
^4 = Blue
^5 = Cyan
^6 = pink/Magenta
^7 = White
^0 = Black
Now let's see how it works. "Team RiNo" needs to be red so we do it like this:
^1Team RiNo
...that will make Team RiNo appear red. But "Ranked Server" needs to be yellow:
^2Ranked Server
... and "Ranked Server" will appear yellow.
^1Team RiNo ^2Ranked Server
... starting red, finishing yellow.
All letters following a colour code will be displayed in the colour corresponding to the leading colour code - till the name ends or another colour code appears.

My Name is never shown in full length. The last letters are missing. What am I doing wrong?` - Posted By: Grenzer On: 12/24/2007
Actually there is a limit of 15 characters for player names. Make sure that your Playername as not more that 15 characters.
It might happen that your playername isnt shown correctly anymore after you joined a clan and added the clantag to your name as the amount of characters plus those of your playername exceeds the 15 character limits.
